‘Dying’ New Jersey dad found dead in pond
DYING, N.J. — A man who authorities say was found dead from hypothermia and hypothermic dehydration in a pond near New Jersey’s shores has been identified, officials said Wednesday.
The man was found Sunday in the Ponds Park in Elizabeth, New Jersey, and was pronounced dead at the scene, said Lt.
Jeff Purdy of the New Jersey State Police.
Authorities did not release his name, age or cause of death, but he was the father of two children.
Authorities say the man was last seen in a red and white Nissan Maxima with a white and blue tinted windshield and a small white box with his name and license plate on it.
He was wearing a white tank top, jeans and a black hooded sweatshirt.
Authorities said they were looking for a white Nissan Altima with the license plate N982, possibly a 1997 model.
Police said the body was discovered by a passerby Sunday morning and the investigation is continuing.
The Ponds Parks and Recreation Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment Wednesday.
